Opaline vase – “pigeon’s throat”
The story
Objects in “pigeon-throat opaline”, such as this delicate vase created almost 200 years ago, are particularly sought after by collectors because of their relative rarity, a logical consequence of their cost of manufacture. – Superb vase in “pigeon-throat opaline” decorated with golden threads, created by “Koenig” in Berlin (Germany) in the 19th century and acquired at the time by an Alsatian aristocrat, collector of opaline objects. This shade of pink, here very subtle, was obtained by adding gold salts to the glass paste during cooking. Opaline objects are particularly sought after by collectors, as this color is rare due to its cost of manufacture at the time.
