Elegant frosted glass vase with a painted decor of rose stem, signed on the side
The story
Sophie, 16, had been working at an old antique shop for a short time. She had recently lost her parents and needed to earn a living. One day, she discovered an ancient glass ball, adorned with decorations of brambles. Despite its … prickly appearance, she decided to buy it and take it home. When she filled it with water and flowers, she saw a red sparkle shining on the brambles. The next day, she found a beautiful rose blooming in the middle of it, the brambles having disappeared to give way to magnificent roses. She could not imagine that Jean Simon Peynaud had learned the magic glassblowing technique from Amédée de Caranza, who had inherited it from Constantinopolitan families. According to legend, the inventor of Greek fire, feeling guilty for the death of thousands, put all his art into this technique. After creating destruction, he wanted to give life, but only a pure soul could achieve it. –
